How Much Do Medicare Agents Actually Make?
Straight answer: it depends on apps written, clients kept, and years building. On the 2026 most-states initial of $694:
| Apps per week | Apps per year | Year-1 gross initials |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | ~200 | ≈ $138,800 |
| 6 | ~300 | ≈ $208,200 |
| 8 | ~400 | ≈ $277,600 |
Read carefully — these are gross year-1 initials at full effective dates, before proration, expenses, taxes, and chargebacks. Real take-home is lower. This is production, not net pay.
The part most people miss
Renewals stack on top. Every client you keep adds $347 to next year before you write a new app, so an agent in year three or four earns renewals on hundreds of prior clients plus new production.
What moves the number
- Effective month (proration).
- State (CA/NJ higher, PR lower).
- Retention.
- Cross-sell — ancillary income per sale, which you set yourself in the calculator.
